FCTA loses first female head of service

By Sarah NEGEDU

The Federal Capital Territory Administration is in mourning following the sudden death of its first female and indigenous Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo.

Adayilo, who last week represented Minister Nyesom Wike at the G7 security meeting in Abuja, reportedly slumped in the early hours of Monday and was confirmed dead shortly after.

She was said to have attended a church service on Sunday.

Though neither the family nor the administration has issued an official statement, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, confirmed the development to journalists.

A career civil servant, Adayilo made history in October 2023 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved her appointment as the first female and indigenous Head of Service of the FCT.

At her swearing-in, she pledged loyalty to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promising to “deliver on my mandate and make Nigerians proud.”

Her appointment was regarded as a landmark for the FCT Administration, breaking long-standing gender and geographical barriers.
