UniAbuja Governing Council elevates 104 lecturers to professorial rank

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, UniAbuja, has approved the promotion of 104 academic staff to professorial cadre, marking the single largest elevation in the institution’s history.

The decision was reached at the 78th Extraordinary Council Meeting, held on September 9 and 10, 2025, at the university’s main campus under the chairmanship of Sen. Olanrewaju Tejuoso.

A breakdown of the promotion shows that 58 staff attained the rank of Professor, while 46 others were elevated to Associate Professor across diverse fields, including agriculture, engineering, Islamic studies, clinical sciences, theatre arts, social sciences, nursing, and allied health sciences.

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, congratulated the newly promoted staff, describing the milestone as “a recognition of hard work, academic excellence, and commitment to the university’s growth.”

Adamu noted that the record number of elevations reflected the council and management’s determination to reward excellence and strengthen the university’s academic capacity.

“With the stability we currently enjoy, greater achievements lie ahead,” Adamu assured, adding that the new promotion drive would inspire improved teaching, research, mentorship, and community service.

He extended hearty congratulations to the beneficiaries on behalf of the governing council and management, urging them to see their new status as a call to higher responsibility.
