The police in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have rescued Nafiu Idris, a staff of the Department of Urban Affairs of the FCT Administration, in joint security operation in Abuja from bandits.
Speaking during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja, on Friday, CP Adewale Ajao, said the command received a distress call on September 17, 2025, at about 10:23 pm after some group of bandits struck in Karu and whisked away the victim.
He said the joint security operatives that comprised of the Anti- kidnap unit of the command, military, hunters, vigilantes and men of DSS rescued the victim during clearance operation at Nasarawa forest that borders FCT.
He said the joint security operatives also engaged suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel after tracing their hideout to Zinda forest behind the Nigerian Army estate in Kurudu, which also shares boundary with Nasarawa state.
He said three notorious criminals including their wanted leader who gave his name as Abdullahi Umar aka “Duna”and his lieutenants Buba Ahmadi aka “Killer”and Habi Sule aka “aMai Kudu” were killed during the gun duel.
He added that fire arms that comprised of two AK-49 rifles with breach numbers 1983 NK 2202 and 1975 SW0924, 2 magazines with seven 7 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 2 Itel handsets, ATM cards (Access Bank and Wema Bank), 2 lighters as well as assorted charms and animal horns and a cash sum of ₦10,000 were recovered.
According to him, further investigation revealed that the neutralized gang leader “Duna” had been responsible for multiple kidnappings in Karu, Guzape, Kpobi, Army Estate Kurudu, and several locations in Nasarawa State.
“The gang’s planned attempt to kidnap a resident of Federal Housing Estate, Karu, on 18th September 2025 at about 2200hrs, was successfully foiled due to the proactive raid and dislodgement of their camp. And proactive anti-kidnapping and anti-banditry patrols are ongoing across border communities and identified hotspots,” he said.
He also disclosed that two vigilantes sustained bullets wounds after armed hoodlums invaded Kpobi village near Kpaduma III under Guzape on15th September 2025 at about 2115hrs.
