DHQ probes deadly explosion at DICON facility

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed a deadly explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, factory in Kaduna, which claimed the life of one person and left others injured.

The blast, which occurred on the morning of September 20, happened while specialists were disposing of expired explosives, including ammonia nitrates, primer caps, and propellants.

In a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, the DHQ said the injured personnel are receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.

“The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement read.

Gusau assured that the situation is under control and that there is no threat to the surrounding community. He stressed that DICON maintains strict safety protocols and that a full investigation has begun to prevent a recurrence

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, established in 1964 and based in Kaduna, is the country’s primary defence factory responsible for producing arms, ammunition and other equipment for the Armed Forces.
