The Inspector-General of Police has removed the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, following nationwide outrage that trailed the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie.

In a signal issued from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye was directed to take over the FCT Command, while DCP Wilson Aniefiok Akpan was posted to Kogi State as Commissioner of Police.

The postings were described as provisional and subject to confirmation by the Police Service Commission.

The message warned that the officers should not wear the new ranks until formal approval is granted.

The late journalist, who was 29, reportedly jumped from her third-floor apartment in a desperate attempt to escape after over 15 armed men stormed a 16-flat compound around 3am. She was confirmed dead on arrival at Maitama General Hospital. The police later announced the arrest of 12 suspects linked to the attack.

The evening of tribute held at Thisday Dome in Abuja on Sunday, October 12, 2025 had in attendance family members, senators, lawmakers, staff of Arise TV, journalists and civil society leaders

The emotional gathering marked the beginning of a three-city farewell that will continue with a Service of Songs at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Port Harcourt, on October 15, before her interment at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra State, on October 18.
