Dogon-Gada community to benefit from FCTA emergency waste cleanup

Residents of the Dogon Gada community in Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, may soon heave a sigh of relief as the FCT Administration has approved a contract for the provision of emergency evacuation of waste from open dumps, waterways, and streams in their area.

The decision, ratified at the latest FCT Executive Committee, EXCO, meeting chaired by Minister Nyesom Wike, involves the release of N111,913,176 (One Hundred and Eleven Million, Nine Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, One Hundred and Seventy-Six Naira) for the execution of the cleanup project.

Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to address longstanding complaints about waste disposal across the territory.

Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, who spoke with journalists after the meeting said, the funding had been fully approved and would be deployed immediately to restore proper sanitation in the area.

According to him, “The Committee ratified the payment of a contract for the provision of emergency evacuation of waste from open dumps collection points, waterways, and streams in Dogon Gada community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.”

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, emphasized the Minister’s commitment to environmental cleanliness. “The Minister is so much concerned especially with regard to the contract concerning waste management and he is very serious about it because it is related directly to the cleanliness of the city,” he said.

Also addressing the Press, the FCT Transportation Secretary, Chinedum Elechi, announced the approval of funds for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services.

He added that approval has also been given for the operation and maintenance of 34 old traffic lights, as well as the installation of three new traffic lights within the Federal Capital City.
