Kanu never rejected Okorocha’s South-East peace talks — Brother

Brother of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Emmanuel Kanu,  has refuted claims that his brother snubbed former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, over alleged efforts to resolve the South-East crisis through dialogue.

Kanu described the reports, which circulated widely on social media and other platforms, as false and misleading, insisting that his brother never rejected any genuine move aimed at peaceful engagement in the region.

He made the clarification in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, following claims that Nnamdi Kanu ignored Okorocha’s alleged intervention to seek an amicable resolution to the lingering South-East crisis.

Some of the reports had suggested that if Kanu had listened to Okorocha’s intervention, the crisis in the South-East would have been resolved peacefully and his eventual incarceration avoided.

However, kanu dismissed the claims, stressing that while there may have been disagreements between his brother and the former governor, such differences were normal and never amounted to a rejection of dialogue.

According to him, Nnamdi Kanu has always remained open to genuine conversations aimed at addressing the political and security challenges confronting the South-East region.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never snubbed former governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha,” Emmanuel said.

He added that both figures recognised the importance of dialogue in addressing the complex issues facing the South-East, noting that attempts to portray the IPOB leader as unwilling to engage in talks were inaccurate and far from the truth.

Kanu further stressed that peaceful engagement remains critical to finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the South-East.
