Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a terrorist logistics operation and neutralised 17 suspected insurgents during a coordinated ambush in Borno State.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with local vigilante groups, was disclosed in a press statement issued on Sunday by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI.
According to the statement, the troops acted on credible intelligence about the movement of logistics supplies by suspected JAS/ISWAP elements. Soldiers, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters, were deployed to an interception point between Sojiri and Kayamla villages on the night of December 20.
Uba said the suspected terrorists arrived at the location in the early hours of December 21, riding bicycles and transporting logistics materials, thereby confirming earlier intelligence. The troops, who were positioned in concealed formations, engaged the insurgents in a decisive ambush.
He disclosed that 17 terrorists were neutralised during the exchange, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Items recovered at the scene included bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, other logistics items, as well as assorted weapons and ammunition.
The statement added that the troops safely withdrew to their base after the operation, while exploitation and follow-up operations are ongoing to further dominate the area and deny insurgents freedom of movement.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to sustain the operational tempo, reaffirming the military’s commitment to degrading terrorist networks and improving security in the North East.
