LNG2026: Ekpo leads Nigeria’s delegation as global energy giants converge in Qatar

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Gas, Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, will lead the country’s delegation to the 21st International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas, LNG2026, scheduled to open on February 2 at the Qatar National Convention Center.

Nigeria’s participation at a high level in the conference underscores the country’s growing strategic interest in gas as a transition fuel and driver of economic growth, a statement by Nigeria LNG Limited said on Tuesday.

The Conference is being hosted by Qatar Energy with the full backing of the Qatari government under the leadership of the Emir of Qatar, His Royal Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Already, thousands of delegates have registered for the landmark event and the registration process remains open on the official conference website.

According to the statement, LNG2026 is expected to attract chief executive officers of leading global oil and gas companies, senior industry experts, policymakers, investors, and innovators from more than 80 countries.

Over 300 exhibitors have also confirmed participation, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and solutions across the LNG value chain.

The conference theme, “Leading LNG: Powering Today and Tomorrow,” will frame discussions on market dynamics, emerging technologies, and innovations shaping the future of LNG as a critical component of global energy security.

Speaking ahead of the event, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of Qatar Energy, H.E. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, said the country was fully prepared to host the global energy community.

He noted that Qatar was honoured to host the LNG conference for the second time in its history.

“The responsible development of Qatar’s natural gas reserves, combined with enduring partnerships and strategic investments, has positioned Qatar Energy as a major global LNG player and helped establish LNG as the cornerstone of growth and a primary vehicle for achieving fair and equitable access to cleaner energy,” Al Kaabi said.

The conference will feature high-level panel discussions and interactive debates on critical issues, including LNG’s role in meeting rising global energy demand.

Running alongside the conference, the LNG2026 exhibition will span more than 35,000 square metres, making it one of the largest industry showcases globally.

With Qatar’s acclaimed hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 still fresh in memory, expectations are high that delegates and visitors to LNG2026 will experience world-class hospitality and seamless organisation.

The conference will run until February 5.
