Polish envoy lauds NAF’s role in regional security

The Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michał Cygan, has described Nigeria as a stabilising force in West Africa, praising the Nigerian Air Force for its role in counter-insurgency and regional security operations.

Cygan stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The ambassador commended the professionalism and resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that Poland was interested in exploring areas of bilateral defence cooperation to support Nigeria’s security priorities.

He said Nigeria’s strategic position and sustained military engagements had continued to contribute to peace and stability across the region.

In his remarks, Aneke emphasised the importance of international partnerships in addressing contemporary security threats, including asymmetric warfare.

He said the Nigerian Air Force remained committed to strengthening cooperation with friendly nations to enhance operational capacity, training, and information sharing in support of national security objectives.

The Chief of the Air Staff added that the service was open to mutually beneficial partnerships aimed at boosting counter-insurgency operations and promoting regional and global security.

Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening defence cooperation between Nigeria and Poland, particularly in support of ongoing air operations against insurgency across the country.
