AMAC postpones single revenue account over system integration issue

The Abuja Municipal Area Council has postponed the full implementation of its Single Revenue Account Policy due to system integration issues affecting its digital payment infrastructure.

The council disclosed that the decision followed technical challenges encountered while synchronising the AMAC Smart Tax portal with commercial bank platforms and the central treasury system, shortly after the policy was introduced for the 2026 fiscal year.

The Executive Chairman of AMAC, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, said the postponement was a precautionary step to prevent errors, including double billing, as the technical upgrades are being completed.

He explained that the policy, which is aimed at blocking revenue leakages and eliminating cash handling, requires seamless system integration to function effectively.

To avoid disruption in revenue collection, the council said existing official payment channels would remain valid pending the completion of the technical audit.

Residents and business owners were also advised to scrutinise any demand notice issued to them, stressing that only notices bearing verified AMAC digital headers for 2026 should be honoured

The council said a new date for the compulsory take-off of the Single Account system would be announced once the integration process is concluded.

A spokesperson for the chairman, Kingsley Madaki, clarified that the extension was strictly technical, noting that the ban on cash payments to individuals remained in force.

He warned residents against unauthorised revenue collectors and individuals posing as technical consultants attempting to exploit the situation.

The Single Revenue Account Policy is a key component of AMAC’s 2026 budget framework and is expected to boost internally generated revenue and support infrastructure development, particularly in rural communities.
