The Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Government of Switzerland have agreed to strengthen defence collaboration, with emphasis on non-kinetic approaches to addressing security challenges.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director, Defence Information, Samaila Uba, following a courtesy visit by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Felix Egloff, to the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, Egloff reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to sustaining and expanding diplomatic and defence cooperation with Nigeria.
The ambassador said Switzerland was particularly interested in supporting non-kinetic security approaches, including humanitarian engagement and initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability.
He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between both countries, especially in areas that address the root causes of insecurity through dialogue, development support and institutional partnerships.
Responding, the Chief of Defence Staff welcomed the Swiss envoy and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s interest in Nigeria’s security and stability.
He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic efforts and stressed the value of such partnerships in complementing ongoing military operations.
The defence chief expressed optimism that the relationship between Nigeria and Switzerland would be further strengthened to achieve more impactful outcomes in peacebuilding and strategic cooperation.
The statement noted that the meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to constructive engagement and collaborative approaches to security.
