APC unveils FCT campaign council, targets victory across six area councils

The rulling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has unveiled its Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Campaign Council, saying it is targeting victory across the six Area Councils in the forthcoming elections.

The campaign council was inaugurated in Friday in Abuja at a ceremony attended by governors, members of the National Assembly, party leaders and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party would focus on effective mobilisation, strategic planning and grassroots engagement to achieve its objectives in the FCT.

Yilwatda said the campaign would go beyond rallies and public appearances, adding that the party would adopt a community-based approach, including door-to-door engagement, to reach voters across the territory.

He explained that the composition of the campaign council was drawn from all six geopolitical zones to reflect the diverse nature of the FCT, which he described as a melting pot of Nigerians from different parts of the country.

According to him, the structure is designed to ensure coordinated outreach to residents from various regions living in Abuja, with the aim of strengthening the party’s presence at the grassroots.

The APC chairman acknowledged that the party did not achieve its desired outcome in the FCT in the last general elections, but expressed optimism that renewed internal cohesion and expanding support would improve its chances in the coming polls.

Earlier, the Chairman of the APC FCT Campaign Council and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee.

AbdulRazaq said the council would pursue a people-oriented campaign strategy anchored on community engagement and coordinated mobilisation across the six Area Councils.

He expressed confidence that with a clearly defined plan and collective effort, the party would record success in the territory.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Secretary of the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, said the demographic composition of the FCT made inclusive politics necessary.

Kalu said the party would take its campaign message directly to residents and communities across the FCT, adding that the APC was determined to improve its electoral performance in the capital.

The event was also attended by former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, serving governors, party leaders and members of the National Assembly.

The party said it was optimistic that sustained mobilisation and coordinated campaign efforts would translate into electoral success in the FCT.
