Nigerian Army Chief orders sustained offensive against terrorists

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of the 4 Special Forces Command to sustain aggressive and intelligence-driven operations against terrorists and other violent groups across the country.

Shaibu gave the charge on Tuesday during his maiden operational visit to the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, Nasarawa State.

Addressing officers and soldiers, the Army Chief urged the troops to dominate the operational space through precision strikes and coordinated missions aimed at dismantling criminal networks threatening national security.

He stressed the need for speed, surprise and combat readiness in tackling evolving security challenges, noting that troops must remain proactive and mission-focused.

According to him, security operations must move beyond reactive responses, as violent groups should not be allowed safe haven anywhere in the country.

The Army Chief also received operational briefings from the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Olurotimi Awolo, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brig. Gen. Umar Abubakar.

He expressed satisfaction with the command’s operational preparedness and training standards, and approved the construction of additional accommodation and critical facilities to enhance training and improve troops’ welfare.

Shaibu assured personnel that their welfare and that of their families remained a priority, adding that sustained investment in logistics and modern combat equipment would strengthen ongoing operations.

The visit also featured a tree-planting exercise within the cantonment to promote environmental sustainability.
