Oyewumi dumps PDP, joins Accord

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party.

Oyewumi, who represents Osun West Senatorial District, formally joined the Accord Party after registering at Ward 9 in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

His defection was disclosed in a statement issued by his media aide, Timileyin Popoola, on Monday.

According to the statement, the senator was received into the party by the Osun State Chairman of Accord, Victor Akande, alongside other party leaders and supporters.

The move followed Oyewumi’s resignation from the PDP after what was described as irreconcilable differences within the party.

Before leaving the PDP, Oyewumi was the last senator from Osun State elected on the platform of the party.

Other lawmakers from the state had earlier defected to different parties, including the All Progressives Congress.

The development also comes months after the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, moved from the PDP to the Accord Party.

The statement added that Oyewumi’s decision was aimed at strengthening his commitment to the people of his constituency and promoting development-oriented policies in the state.
