Aduda dumps PDP, cites crisis in party

By Sarah NEGEDU
Immediate past Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Philip Aduda, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, bringing an end to his more than two-decade affiliation with the opposition party.
Aduda, who served in the 7th, 8th and 9th National Assembly between 2011 and 2023, announced his exit in a letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Karu Ward, Abuja, dated March 17, 2026.
Aduda’s departure adds to growing unease within the party, which has faced internal wrangling since the last general elections.
In the letter, Aduda wrote, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation.
Please, accept the assurances of my high esteem.”
The letter was acknowledged by the Karu Ward Chairman, Abu Aso Danjuma, who signed and collected the original copy on behalf of the party.
Aduda’s resignation is expected to heighten speculation about his next political move, especially in the FCT where he remains one of the PDP’s most recognisable figures.
