The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has addressed the controversy surrounding claims by Mrs Tracy Ohiri, stating that the matter will be resolved in court following her failure to provide verifiable evidence.
In a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the minister said the ongoing public discourse made it necessary to set the record straight in the interest of clarity and truth.
Umahi explained that a lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, who was involved in the matter, acted in good faith and did not at any time negotiate or receive money on his behalf.
The statement added that although some individuals expressed willingness to support Ohiri financially, no payment discussion was held with the lawyer.
According to the minister, two conditions were earlier outlined to resolve the issue — either the case be decided in court or Ohiri provides verifiable evidence, including relevant communications, to support her claims.
“Following the failure to meet these conditions, particularly the inability to provide credible evidence, the minister has directed his legal team to proceed with court processes,” the statement said.
The minister also noted that while he had previously remained silent despite public criticisms, recent developments made a response necessary.
He reiterated his commitment to delivering road infrastructure across the country, adding that he would not be distracted by the controversy.
Umahi further appreciated Nigerians who, according to him, have taken time to review the situation and form informed opinions.
