Two police operatives have lost their lives after they were knocked down by a hit-and-run driver along the Osogbo-Gbongan Road in Oogi community, Osun State.
The Osun State Police Command said the incident occurred on Wednesday when the officers, identified as Kehinde and Tobi, were travelling on a motorcycle.
Spokesperson for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed on Thursday that a Lexus car rammed into the motorcycle, killing the two officers.
According to him, the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle.
“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. One Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved,” Ojelabi said.
He added that police authorities had recovered both the Lexus car and the motorcycle involved in the accident and taken them into custody.
The command said it had launched an investigation into the incident and commenced efforts to track down the fleeing driver.
Ojelabi further revealed that one of the deceased officers had already been buried in line with Islamic rites.
He assured that the police would continue investigations to ensure the driver responsible for the fatal accident is arrested and brought to justice.
