Public water supply has been restored to Maitama, Wuse I, Wuse II and Wuye districts, bringing relief to thousands of residents who endured weeks of water shortages following damage to a major trunk line.
The Federal Capital Territory Water Board said supply resumed on Wednesday after engineers completed emergency repairs on the damaged pipeline, which was undergoing maintenance to prevent a major system failure.
The development ends weeks of disruption that forced many households and businesses in the affected districts to depend on water vendors, private boreholes and other alternative sources for their daily needs.
The outage was caused by damage to the main trunk line during ongoing road construction, while persistent rainfall delayed repair work beyond the initial schedule.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, its Public Relations Officer, Umar Ako, the Water Board thanked residents for their patience and understanding throughout the disruption.
It said the emergency repairs were undertaken to safeguard the integrity of the water supply system and ensure sustainable water distribution to the affected districts and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
The board also reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery, saying it would continue to respond promptly to burst pipes, leakages and other operational challenges.
“We recognize the inconveniences caused and thank you for your cooperation while our engineers worked to resolve the challenge.
“With the completion of the repairs, the Board is fully committed to efficient and improved service delivery across the FCT. We will continue to prioritize prompt response to burst pipes, leakages, and other service-related issues.”
It appealed to customers to pay their water bills promptly, noting that regular payment would enable it to maintain facilities, undertake critical repairs and sustain uninterrupted water supply across the territory.
The board advised residents with enquiries, complaints or bill payment issues to visit its Customer Care Unit at the FCT Water Board headquarters in Garki Area 3 or contact its customer service lines.
