EFCC arrests fake operative over alleged N3m fraud in Maiduguri

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a man identified as Nuhu Dahiru for allegedly impersonating an operative of the commission and defrauding members of the public of N3m.

The EFCC disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Monday, stating that Dahiru was arrested by operatives of its Maiduguri Zonal Directorate.

According to the commission, the suspect was arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence that he had been parading himself as an EFCC officer.

The agency alleged that Dahiru obtained N3m from unsuspecting members of the public through false pretence and impersonation.

It added that the sum of N3m was recovered from the suspect at the point of his arrest.

The EFCC stated, “The suspect was arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence indicating that he had been parading himself as an officer of the EFCC, and thereby defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.”

The commission said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
