The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, have announced a one-time verification system for West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, and other O’Level results submitted by candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
A joint statement by JAMB and WAEC issued on Tuesday, said under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC results only once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
The exam bodies noted that the outcome of the verification will subsequently be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
According to them, candidates would pay a one-off fee of N4,000 for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results through the designated platform, adding that the payment is not to be made through the candidate’s preferred institution.
JAMB and WAEC also directed tertiary institutions to utilise the verified results made available by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes. Consequently, candidates are not to be subjected to additional charges for the verification of the same result by their institutions.
WAEC has further authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
The new arrangement is intended to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’Level results through the Verification Service will not be required to repeat the exercise.
According to the examination bodies, the policy will reduce the stress and costs associated with repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres, as candidates can initiate the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location.
JAMB and WAEC therefore urged candidates to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results through the JAMB-provided Verification Service once, with the assurance that the verified result will subsequently be available to the relevant institution.
According to them, the collaboration underscores the commitment of both organisations to prioritising candidates’ interests, reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process, while safeguarding the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
