The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has joined the G-100 opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is part of ongoing efforts by opposition political parties and political actors to build a united platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The G-100 held its inaugural summit on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, bringing together representatives of six opposition parties to discuss areas of cooperation ahead of the elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PDP faction said its participation was driven by the need to unite with other political forces to address what it described as worsening hardship, insecurity and poverty in the country.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the decision was consistent with the PDP’s position of working with political parties and organisations seeking an alternative to the APC administration.
The factional PDP said its involvement in the coalition would be guided by transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and inclusiveness.
It added that the proposed opposition platform could provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership capable of addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
The party said the coalition-building process would continue as opposition groups work towards establishing a common front for the 2027 elections.
