Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has tasked women leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the territory, to mobilise women across the six area councils for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Mahmoud said the party’s women leaders must deploy their grassroots networks to secure support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the general elections.
Mahmoud who spoke when she received the FCT APC Woman Leader, Hajia Farida Odangi Suleiman, and members of her executive committee in her office, said the capacity and commitment needed to deliver victory for the party were already available within the APC.
The minister, in a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, however stressed the need for stronger grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and inclusive engagement.
She also called for the reconciliation of party members who feel alienated or abandoned, saying there was a need to establish a conciliation mechanism to bring aggrieved members back into the party.
The statement further added that the transformation taking place in the FCT under the Tinubu administration, with the support of the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, was evident in infrastructure and other sectors.
It however noted that more attention must be given to improving the lives of residents across the six area councils.
According to the minister, “women remain critical to the success of the APC”, adding that their effective participation and collaboration with men would be crucial to advancing the Renewed Hope agenda and securing victory for the party at all levels in 2027.
The minister urged APC women leaders at all levels to use their experience and grassroots structures to build a stronger and more united party ahead of the elections.
Responding, Suleiman pledged the commitment of APC women across the FCT to mobilising support for Tinubu and other party candidates in 2027.
She acknowledged the projects and interventions of the Tinubu administration in the territory, saying the President deserved stronger electoral support from the nation’s capital.
Suleiman, however, cautioned that securing victory would require deliberate grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and sustained engagement with residents.
According to her, “all is not well politically,” warning that party leaders must move beyond assumptions and take their campaign to communities across the territory.
She called for town hall meetings, community engagements and greater empathy in communicating government policies to residents.
Suleiman also pledged the support of FCT APC women for Mahmoud, describing her as a mother, politician and leader capable of leading the women to victory in 2027.
The high point of the visit was the presentation of the Tinubu “Torchbearers’ designation to Mahmoud on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the APC National Women Leader.
