The FCT Department of Land Administration has reconstituted its Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, Committee as part of efforts to reduce delays in resolving land disputes and improve the administration of land in the Federal Capital Territory.
The committee is expected to provide an avenue for resolving disputes without recourse to litigation, with its mandate covering mediation and conciliation, review of complaints and petitions, examination of relevant land records and recommendations to management on appropriate resolutions.
A statement issued by the Information Officer, AGIS, Badaru Yakasai, quoted the Director, FCT Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, as saying the reconstituted committee would promote amicable settlements and ensure compliance with mutually agreed terms.
Nwankwoeze said the selection of members was based on their experience, competence and the confidence placed in their ability to contribute to the committee’s mandate.
According to him, “The selection of Committee members was based on experience, competence, and the confidence reposed in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the effective discharge of the Committee’s mandate, particularly in the amicable resolution of disputes arising from land administration matters within the Federal Capital Territory.”
He said the initiative was part of efforts aligned with the reform agenda of the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to sanitise land administration and improve service delivery to residents.
The director added that the committee’s reconstitution reinforced the department’s commitment to transparency, fairness and the rule of law in land administration, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The committee’s chairman, Samuel Agbana, who spoke on behalf of members, thanked the director for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to discharge their responsibilities with transparency, fairness and professionalism.
Agbana assured that members would work without fear or favour to ensure the speedy and amicable resolution of land-related disputes in accordance with the committee’s Terms of Reference.
