The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has restored its Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, urging tertiary institutions to accelerate the admission process to recover time lost during the platform’s 96-hour disruption.
JAMB, in its Monday Bulletin, said CAPS was fully restored on Sunday, and is now operational, allowing institutions to resume admission processing ahead of the deadlines agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions.
The Board urged institutions, particularly public universities, to intensify their admission activities as the October 31 deadline for concluding admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session remains sacrosanct.
JAMB said, “The Board consequently urges all institutions to immediately accelerate their admission processes to recover the time lost during the period of the disruption and ensure compliance with the admission deadlines agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions.”
The Board had earlier attributed the temporary unavailability of CAPS to an administrative challenge involving its hosting organisation, assuring stakeholders that it was working with relevant service providers to restore the platform and ensure its stability.
Under the admission timetable agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting, public universities are expected to conclude admissions on or before October 31, private universities by November 30, while other tertiary institutions have until December 31, 2026.
JAMB said the release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination results by the National Examinations Council, NECO, makes it particularly important for universities to intensify their admission processes and effectively utilise the remaining period.
The Board also advised candidates awaiting their NECO results to immediately upload or verify their results to ensure that their credentials are available for consideration as institutions accelerate admissions.
JAMB assured stakeholders that it would match the renewed pace by promptly considering and approving admission recommendations submitted by institutions through CAPS.
The Board also advised candidates to promptly accept admission offers made to them, stressing that this would help institutions meet the agreed admission timelines.
Beyond restoring the platform, JAMB said it was implementing measures to strengthen the resilience, stability and reliability of CAPS, including medium- and long-term redundancy and business-continuity arrangements.
According to the Board, the measures are designed to reduce dependence on any single hosting or service environment and minimise the risk and impact of future disruptions.
JAMB apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary outage and thanked candidates, institutions and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding, assuring them that lessons from the incident would be applied to strengthen CAPS and improve the overall admission experience.
