As the countdown to 2027 general elections enters 100-day on Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has concluded plans to give Nigerians a detailed account of its readiness for the polls at a world press conference and a national stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to update the public on the state of the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and the measures in place to protect the integrity of the process.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Adedayo Oketola, said the engagement reflects the commission’s commitment to transparency, proactive public communication and stakeholder participation as the election timetable advances.
According to Oketola, the meeting will bring together a broad cross-section of players, including political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, diplomats, development partners, civil society organisations, observer groups and disability rights advocates.
He added that religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives will also attend the event which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
He said the proceedings of the meeting will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official social media platforms for wider public.
