Nigerian Navy disrupts two illegal refineries, recovers 58,000 litres in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy has disrupted two illegal refining sites and recovered approximately 58,000 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil in Rivers State.

The operation was carried out by NNS PATHFINDER, a unit under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, on October 3 at Okarki Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area.

The Navy said the operation followed credible intelligence on suspected crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the area.

During the operation, naval personnel discovered nine dugout pits, storage containers and sacks containing the suspected stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products.

The Navy said the intervention disrupted facilities used by criminal operators to store and process stolen petroleum resources, thereby affecting the supply chain supporting illegal refining activities in the area.

The two illegal refining sites and the recovered products were handled in line with established anti-crude oil theft procedures.

No arrests were made, as the suspected operators reportedly fled before the arrival of the naval team.

The statement was signed by the Director of Naval Information, Captain A. A. Folorunsho.
