As Bayelsa State celebrates three decades of existence and honours some of the personalities who have contributed to its growth, Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri, wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has been recognised for her humanitarian service, compassion and commitment to improving the lives of others.
The commendation came from the Vice President of Boardwalk Group, Abuja-based real estate developer and philanthropist, Chief Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, who described Mrs Lokpobiri as a pillar of strength and an “icon” of positive impact.
Okwubanego spoke against the backdrop of the Bayelsa @ 30 anniversary celebration, themed “Celebrating Legacies”, where Governor Douye Diri presented Senator Lokpobiri with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions and service.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Okwubanego described Senator Lokpobiri and his wife as “two perfect persons” whose hearts, she said, were focused on making the nation better and improving the lives of people who crossed their paths.
While commending the minister for his role in the oil and gas sector and his contributions to projecting Bayelsa positively at the federal level, Okwubanego said Dr Ogechi deserved particular recognition for the impact she has continued to make through her compassion and commitment to humanity.
According to her, Dr Ogechi exemplifies the virtues of a supportive, hardworking and productive wife who contributes meaningfully to the success of her husband while also touching the lives of others.
She likened her to the biblical woman who builds her home, stressing that the popular saying that “behind every successful man there is a woman” becomes meaningful when such a woman is caring, productive, hardworking and committed to the wellbeing of others.
Okwubanego said Dr Ogechi’s influence extends beyond her role as the wife of a serving minister, noting that her dedication to humanity has earned her the respect and admiration of those who have encountered her.
She added that the recognition of Senator Lokpobiri during the Bayelsa @ 30 celebrations should also be viewed against the support and partnership of people around him, particularly his wife, whom she described as a dependable pillar.
Okwubanego urged public officials and their spouses to use their positions and influence to promote initiatives that positively affect ordinary Nigerians, stressing that true leadership should ultimately be measured by its impact on human lives.
