The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced the unavailability of all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
TCN said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions, when the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection.
According to the company, investigations following the trip revealed the collapse of Towers T78, T79 and T80 along the transmission corridor, prompting TCN to isolate the affected section of the line as a safety measure.
Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable, meaning no load can be nominated on the affected feeders pending restoration.
TCN said its engineers are already on site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to commence repair and restoration work.
The company apologised to electricity customers supplied from the affected substations for the disruption, assuring them that efforts were underway to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and restore bulk power supply.
“Kindly note that we will continue to provide further updates as restoration efforts progress,” TCN said.
