Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested a suspect in the Maitama area of Abuja, for driving a Lexus LX570 SUV bearing a fake number plate with the inscription “PRESIDENCY”.
The suspect was arrested at about 8pm on October 20, 2026, after police operatives intercepted the vehicle, which bore the registration number 10B218 FG.
The FCT Police Command said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly impersonated a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, further investigations were conducted after the suspect claimed to be the legitimate holder of the number plate. The probe, she said, allegedly revealed that the suspect was using a fabricated plate and had presented forged registration documents.
Adeh, in a statement issued on October 21, said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon their conclusion.
The command therefore urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police operations and promptly report suspicious persons or activities.
Residents were advised to report such incidents to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
