2027 polls: INEC opens preliminary voters’ register online

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has opened its preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election on its online platform.

The Commission said it was responding to calls for wider public access after the completion of the mandatory physical display exercise nationwide.

INEC, in a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, IVEC, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the online publication would complement the physical display conducted from October 9 to 15, 2026.

It added that it allows registered voters and other stakeholders to inspect the register more conveniently ahead of the final compilation of voters’ records.

According to the Commission, the decision to open the registrar followed concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over the need to make the register accessible online.

“In furtherance of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission has decided to make available on its online platform the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas,” Haruna said.

Haruna said the register could be accessed through https://display.inecnigeria.org, providing an additional avenue for voters to verify their particulars beyond the physical inspection exercise.

The physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which provides for the inspection of the preliminary register and the submission of claims and objections by registered voters.

INEC said it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the exercise as part of preparations for the certification and publication of the final register of voters.

The commission is expected to publish the final register on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general election.

It expressed appreciation to Nigerians and stakeholders for their interest and constructive engagement, reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The commission said the measures were intended to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process and support the conduct of credible elections.
