The FCT Police Command has dismantled an interstate car theft syndicate following the arrest of an acclaimed clergyman and his accomplice in connection with the theft of a Toyota Camry at UTC Plaza in Abuja.
The principal suspect, identified as Edwin Nwabueze, who claims to be a pastor with the Salvation Power Bible Ministry in the North Bank area of Benue State, was tracked down and arrested at his residence on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
His arrest subsequently led police operatives to another location where his accomplice, Sadiq Jamiu, was rounded up.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, revealed that preliminary investigations have already linked the self-acclaimed pastor to previous arrests by the Benue State Police Command over similar vehicle theft cases.
Adeh noted that further findings indicate the suspects belong to a notorious interstate vehicle theft syndicate specializing in the theft and sale of cars across different states of the federation.
According to the police spokesperson, investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and apprehend other members who are currently at large.
She stated that the arrested suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Command has urged members of the public to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s dedicated emergency line.
