Customs, EFCC strengthen collaboration against financial crimes

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have pledged to strengthen inter-agency collaboration to tackle economic and financial crimes, smuggling, illicit financial flows, and the impersonation of public officers.

The commitment was made during a strategic engagement between the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Cross River/Calabar Free Trade Zone/Akwa Ibom Area Command, Deputy Comptroller, DC, Ngozi Nwala, and the EFCC Uyo Zonal Directorate.

Speaking during the engagement, DC Nwala stressed the need for sustained cooperation between the agencies through intelligence sharing, timely information exchange, and coordinated operations to address emerging economic and security threats. She reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the EFCC in promoting transparency, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.

Responding, the Uyo Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Oshodi Johnson, welcomed the delegation and emphasised the importance of inter-agency synergy in addressing emerging economic and security challenges.

Johnson urged Customs officers to avoid careless use of social media, warning that fraudsters increasingly exploit online platforms to impersonate public officers using their names, photographs, ranks and official designations.

He urged officers to protect their professional identities, exercise caution when sharing information online and remain vigilant against fraudulent accounts and individuals, noting that responsible digital conduct was essential to safeguarding both their personal security and the institutional reputation of the Nigeria Customs Service.
