The medical community in Bayero University, Kano, is celebrating the emergence of its first ever Professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in the person of Dr. Mohammed Kabir Abubakar.
Dr Abubakar’s elevation, which followed the confirmation of promotion by the 15th Governing Council of Bayero University, also makes the Niger state indigene, the first illustrious son of the state to become a professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery.
Our correspondent gathered that Prof. Abubakar, rose through the ranks to get to this exalted position, having served as a former Head of Department of Surgery Bayero University and Aminu Kano Teaching hospital Kano.
The accomplished Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon had professional training both within and outside the country. He was with Mount Sinai University, New York, and has served as Head of Trauma at the John F Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Monrovia Liberia. He was a Visiting Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with IBB Specialized Hospital Minna Niger state.
He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeon, and also has fellowship of Nigerian Institute for Health Care Providers and Institute of Management consultants of Nigeria.
The university don has published several peer reviewed papers in both local and international journal. He has served in several universities and teaching hospital capacities and committees.
Dr M.K, as he is fondly called, had his early education in Zarumai Primary School and Government Secondary School Minna, Niger. He was a medical graduate of University of Maiduguri. He also has a Masters Degree in Disaster Risk management from Ahmadu Bello University and a Masters in Business Administration (Health Services) from Bayero University.
His hobbies includes farming, advocacy for injury prevention, information technology and machine learning.
