Ododo unveils reforms to revamp Kogi’s PHC

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced sweeping reforms to overhaul the state’s primary healthcare system, aimed at improving access and quality of services for citizens.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting on primary healthcare revitalization in Lokoja, Governor Ododo, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, revealed plans for periodic spot checks on all Primary Healthcare Centres, PHCs in the state.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Primary Healthcare Task Force in collaboration with local governments and traditional rulers, is designed to enhance accountability and coordination within the system.

“Our administration is determined to tackle the challenges in primary healthcare delivery and ensure better health outcomes for the people of Kogi State. Improved data collection and adherence to best practices will be key in achieving this,” Ododo said.

He further emphasized the importance of PHCs in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, increasing immunization coverage, and improving general health awareness in communities.

Governor Ododo also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of healthcare reforms nationwide, which he said has been instrumental in the state’s efforts.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, disclosed that at least one PHC in each of the 239 wards in the state is operational and receiving funding, with plans to expand the initiative.

Traditional rulers, led by the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, pledged their continued support in monitoring PHCs to ensure quality service delivery.

“We will work tirelessly to assist the government in sustaining these reforms to bring better healthcare to our people,” the Ohinoyi assured.
