NANS leadership tussle turns bloody as DSS rescues factional president

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have rescued a factional president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Hon. Abubakar Isa Atiku, following a machete attack during a violent confrontation in Abuja.

The DSS intervened after Atiku was allegedly attacked with a machete by members of another factional leader, Hon. Olusola Ladoja, after they clashed at Wells Carlton last Tuesday in Abuja, during an attempt to inaugurate the new NANS executives.

Trouble reportedly began when supporters of a rival faction led by Hon. Olusola Ladoja stormed the event, leading to a free-for-all.

The clash sent guests and dignitaries, among them former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Idris Wada, scrambling for safety as the two factions engaged in a brutal scuffle.

Amid the chaos, Atiku was reportedly seized and assaulted with machetes before being whisked away by Ladoja’s camp.

One individual, identified as Mustapha, aka Musty, sustained a deep cut to his arm.

Security sources confirmed that DSS operatives pursued the assailants and succeeded in rescuing Atiku, who was badly injured.

A pistol and a machete were recovered from the scene, and an investigation is now underway to determine who brought the weapons.

Atiku is currently receiving medical care at a secured DSS medical facility.

The bloody confrontation is the latest in a series of disputes following parallel conventions held on February 27 in Abuja, where both Atiku and Ladoja emerged as factional leaders, each claiming to be the legitimate NANS president.
