Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated the publisher of NewsDiaryOnline, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, on his emergence as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described the election as a reflection of unity and professionalism among members of the Guild.
The Governor commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the election, noting that the rancour-free process, in which many candidates emerged unopposed, showed the strong bond and mutual respect within GOCOP.
He urged Mr. Nmodu to lead with fairness, transparency and accountability while upholding the ideals of responsible journalism that have earned the Guild respect in Nigeria’s media landscape.
Ododo restated his administration’s commitment to press freedom, describing the media as a key partner in deepening democracy and promoting accountability in governance.
> “I congratulate the new leadership of GOCOP and urge members to remain in the forefront of promoting responsible journalism. As an administration, we shall continue to expand the frontier of press freedom while encouraging fairness, accountability and professionalism in media practice,” he said.
The Governor also praised the Guild for its role in amplifying government policies and programmes, describing GOCOP as a reliable bridge between the government and the people.
Mr. Danlami Nmodu was elected President of GOCOP at the Guild’s annual general meeting held in Lagos.
He succeeds Dr. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews.
