Umai Ukpai was a true general in army of God – Pastor Adeboye

By Laraba MUREY

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has described the late Rev. Umai Ukpai as a “true general in the army of our God.”

He made this known during a condolence visit to the family of the late man of God in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state on Monday, October 27, 2025.

In a Facebook post on his verified handle, Pastor Adeboye wrote; “Earlier today, I paid a condolence visit to the residence of my dear friend and brother, Reverend Umai Ukpai, who has gone to be with the Lord.

“Reverend Umai Ukpai was not just a minister of the gospel, he was a true general in the army of our God, a man of unshakable faith, quiet strength, and uncommon humility. His life was a living sermon, one that spoke louder than words, a story of service, of love for God’s people, and of steadfast devotion to the Kingdom.

“He has fought the good fight.

“He has finished his course.”

According to the RCCG GO, fondly referred to as Daddy GO, the late Ukpai “now rests in the everlasting arms of the Almighty, where there is no more pain, no more striving: only peace, joy, and glory.”

He expressed the heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies of the Church to the late pastor’s wife, Pastor Philomena Ukpai, and the entire Ukpai family.

“May the Lord Himself wrap you in His unfailing love, comfort your hearts, and strengthen you in this valley of loss.

“My friend has not died, he has only changed address, moving from the field of battle to the presence of his Commander-in-Chief.

“He is home.

“He is at rest.

“He is in the arms of God Almighty.”

The deceased was one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists and founded the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, UUEA.

He passed away at the age of 80 on October 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and philanthropy that spanned over five decades.
