Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and Dikko Radda of Katsina, alongside industry leaders and heads of Federal Government agencies, are expected in Abuja on October 20 for a national dialogue on Nigeria’s drive towards a $1 trillion economy.
The dialogue, organised by the Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) as part of activities marking its 20th anniversary, will focus on the roles of policymakers, businesses, stakeholders and the media in achieving the Federal Government’s ambitious economic growth target.
The event, scheduled for the Executive Hall of Barcelona Hotel, Abuja, from 10 a.m., will also feature the presentation of CICAN Awards of Excellence to selected public and private sector leaders for their contributions to Nigeria’s commerce, industry, trade and investment sectors.
Themed, “FG’s $1 Trillion Economy: Role of Policy Makers, Stakeholders and Media in Its Actualisation,” the national dialogue is expected to bring together government officials, manufacturers, investors, financial institutions, regulators, development partners and other stakeholders to examine pathways for accelerating economic growth.
According to the CICAN 20th Anniversary Celebration Committee, the award recipients include the three governors, chief executives and heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, as well as other notable public and private sector stakeholders.
The committee said the recipients were selected in recognition of their contributions to economic development, industrial growth, trade facilitation, investment promotion and the implementation of policies and programmes affecting Nigeria’s commerce and industry landscape.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment are also expected at the event, alongside industry captains and other key players in the economy.
The anniversary, according to the committee, marks two decades of CICAN’s specialised journalism covering commerce, industry, trade, investment and economic development, with the association playing a role in deepening public understanding of economic policies and promoting informed economic discourse.
It said the awards would also spotlight achievements in areas including industrialisation, infrastructure development, investment attraction, enterprise growth and job creation.
The committee added that the national dialogue would seek practical recommendations on how government, the private sector, development partners and the media could contribute to the realisation of the $1 trillion economy objective.
The anniversary celebration will culminate in the presentation of the CICAN Awards of Excellence to the selected personalities and organisations recognised for their contributions to Nigeria’s economic advancement and national development.
