Atiku, Binani pick ADC cards in Adamawa

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday picked his African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership card after completing his registration at the Jada 1 Ward of Jada Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

Recall that the ADC had earlier asked Atiku and other coalition leaders to return to their wards to formally register before they could be recognised as bona fide members of the party.

In a statement by the Atiku Media Office, Jada, Adamawa State, Atiku said collecting the card marked the beginning of what he called “real opposition” to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He urged his supporters and Nigerians committed to reclaiming and rebuilding the country to register with the ADC.

The collection of Atiku’s card followed his formal registration by Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua, the National Secretary of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee, who supervised the exercise in Adamawa State. Atiku said: “Now I have picked my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will work in concert with other leaders of the opposition and Nigerians to chase the APC out of government.”

The Adamawa State ADC chairman, Hon. Shehu Yohanna, who joined Senator Yar’Adua to conduct the registration, said Atiku’s entry signalled the unveiling of statewide membership registration across all local governments and wards. He called on citizens, especially youths and women, to take advantage of the opportunity to join the party nationwide. Senator Yar’Adua also urged Nigerians to ensure they register to vote.

Former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, Senator Aishatu Binani, Senator Ahmed Hassan Barata, Senator Aziz Nyako and Senator Ishaku Abbo were among key members of the Adamawa coalition who attended the unveiling ceremony.
