IPOB denies talks with Anambra govt, dismisses internal crisis

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has denied reports that its representatives held talks with the Anambra State Government, dismissing claims of an internal crisis within the organisation.

The group said this in an internal memo addressed to its members and issued on Saturday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

IPOB reaffirmed that its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, remains the sole authority within the movement, insisting that its leadership structure and chain of command are long-established and not open to dispute.

According to the group, no individual or group is authorised to speak or negotiate on behalf of IPOB outside its recognised leadership framework.

It distanced itself from claims attributed to persons it described as non-members and former associates, stressing that such individuals lack legitimacy to represent the organisation.

IPOB said Kanu deliberately created structured departments to guide the movement, adding that his directives remain final and binding.

The group also stated that its Directorate of Media and Publicity is the only authorised channel for issuing statements on IPOB’s affairs, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise.

On the Monday sit-at-home scheduled for February 2, IPOB described the action as a one-off protest linked to developments in Anambra State, insisting that it was not subject to reinterpretation or speculation.

The organisation denied claims that members of its Directorate of State met secretly with representatives of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, describing such reports as false and misleading.

According to IPOB, those alleged to have held such talks neither represent its leader nor act on behalf of the organisation.

The group urged its members to remain peaceful and disciplined, warning against misinformation and internal speculation.

IPOB reiterated its commitment to non-violent agitation and maintained that its demand for self-determination through a referendum remains unchanged.
