2027: Tinubu’ll win landslide, challengers wasting money — APC chieftain

A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Tolu Bankole, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a landslide victory in the 2027 presidential election, warning potential challengers that spending money to contest against him would be a waste.

Bankole said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, where he urged Nigerians to rally behind the President, whom he described as a visionary leader transforming the country.

According to him, the performance of the Tinubu administration in less than three years has repositioned the President for an overwhelming victory in 2027, compared to the keenly contested 2023 election.

He recalled that President Tinubu won the 2023 poll with 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who polled 6,101,533 votes, while also meeting the constitutional requirement of securing at least 25 per cent of votes in two-thirds of the states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Bankole said recent opinion polls showed that the President’s approval rating had improved significantly, citing a NOIPolls survey which put Tinubu’s approval at 51 per cent, the highest since the beginning of the administration.

He attributed the rise in popularity to reforms in agriculture, food security and economic stabilisation, noting that the President had turned what was a narrow victory in 2023 into what he described as a broad-based national mandate.

The APC chieftain also listed achievements in infrastructure, saying the administration had initiated over 440 road projects and was constructing more than 2,700 kilometres of major highways, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway.

He added that the government’s policies had attracted billions of dollars in foreign direct investment and new oil and gas investments, while government revenue had more than doubled.

On housing, Bankole said the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme had been launched in several locations across the country, with plans to deliver tens of thousands of housing units, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

He also pointed to reforms in education, including the student loan scheme, investments in medical education and the expansion of solar power projects in federal tertiary institutions.

On the economy, he said the removal of fuel subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market had helped redirect resources to critical sectors, adding that the national minimum wage had been increased to N70,000 and that the government was promoting the use of compressed natural gas as a cheaper and cleaner alternative fuel.

Bankole dismissed criticisms from opposition groups, describing them as desperate attempts to undermine the administration, and insisted that the APC remained committed to good governance under the rule of law.

He said, “Any attempt to challenge President Tinubu in 2027 will be a waste of money. The President is on course for a landslide victory based on his performance and growing public support.”
