A coalition of civil society groups has condemned the recent attack on a train in Kaduna state, urging the government to be sensitive to the devastating effect of insecurity in the country.
At a press briefing weekend in Abuja, the executive director, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Group, CISLAC, Aual Rafsanjani, said there was the urgent need for government to protect lives and property of all Nigerians as it was its primary responsibility.
“We are here to remind the government to be proactive to its core responsibility. This senseless killings across the country has brought the country to a near collapse of our corporate existence as a nation. As we speak, nowhere is safe, in our homes, we are not safe, on the roads, we are not safe, in the offices, we are still not safe. Nigeria is at the verge of collapse. We cannot fold our hands watch these atrocities,” Rafsanjani said.
He urged the media to remind the leaders that they have failed in their primary responsibility of protecting lives and properties, hence they have no business to remain in the circle of leadership.
Also speaking at the event, the executive director, Global Rights, Dr. Abiodun Bayiwu, said government should ensure that all those kidnapped at the train station in Kaduna regain their freedom and be united with their families.
