FG to commission 411 TETFund projects nationwide beginning June

The Federal Government has announced plans to commence the commissioning of 411 TETFund-sponsored infrastructure projects across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide from June 2026.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja after inaugurating governing councils, committees and principal officers in the education sector.

Alausa said the projects, executed under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, reflected the government’s commitment to revitalising tertiary education infrastructure and improving learning conditions across the country.

According to him, many of the projects are already completed and ready for commissioning.

“Listen to the section where he said 411 new infrastructure projects built within the last 30 months by this President. When we say the President has committed more funds to the education sector, it is not abstract.

“It’s the fund that we’re using in carrying out extensive infrastructure upgrades across all our tertiary institutions; and beyond infrastructure upgrades, also strengthening governance, improving quality and welfare of our staff. So the entire value chain is being built,” he said.

The minister also addressed the dispute involving the Federal University of Technology Minna and the Niger State Government over the use of part of the institution’s old campus for the take-off of a medical school by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University.

Alausa explained that the committee set up by the Federal Ministry of Education will resolve the issue.

“It’s not a conflict. The proposition is good because we desperately need to train more doctors, pharmacists, dentists and nurses. We will do everything possible to actualise that,” he said.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arc Sonny Echono, described the period as “a season for harvest,” saying the projects were products of sustained investments in education by the Tinubu administration.

“Commissioning of projects will commence in June. We are going to start first from home. TETFund has developed new regional offices in Kaduna, Bauchi and Port Harcourt, and these three are ready for commissioning. Thereafter, we will progress to institutions,” Echono said

He added that the 411 projects would be commissioned between June and September, with some major projects reserved for inauguration by President Tinubu during official visits to states.

“There are some very iconic ones we are going to leave for Mr President to commission as he goes around the states. The Honourable Minister has also accepted to commission some of the major ones too,” he stated.

Echono added that the committee, comprising officials from the ministry and both institutions, had been given two weeks to submit its report and develop a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure smooth sharing of facilities.
