Two police officers were reportedly killed when suspected gunmen attacked the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, along the Amansea-Ufuma Road.
Dr. Nwankwo was said to have escaped unharmed during the attack, which occurred on Sunday night.
Following the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed security operatives across the state to intensify efforts to identify and arrest those behind the attack within 48 hours.
The police commissioner issued the directive during an emergency meeting with senior officers and heads of tactical units at the state command headquarters.
Condemning the attack, Orutugu described it as a serious challenge to public safety and assured residents that security agencies would spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He also warned criminal groups operating in the state that law enforcement agencies were determined to dismantle their networks and restore confidence among residents.
According to the commissioner, intelligence reports indicate that some criminal elements have adopted the use of security uniforms as a disguise while carrying out attacks, making it necessary for members of the public to remain vigilant.
He further advised motorists and commuters travelling along the Amansea-Ufuma Road to exercise caution, noting concerns over recent security incidents on the route.
The commissioner assured residents that ongoing intelligence-led operations would be strengthened to ensure the arrest of the suspects and improve security across the state.
