Kwara State Government has announced the release of 176 residents abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through the state’s official Facebook page, bringing relief to families months after one of the deadliest attacks recorded in the area.
In its statement, the government expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and all those involved in securing the victims’ freedom.
The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the two communities on motorcycles, launching a coordinated attack that lasted several hours.
The assault reportedly claimed more than 200 lives, injured several residents, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many families. Local vigilantes who attempted to repel the attackers were also said to have been overwhelmed during the invasion.
Although the government confirmed that all 176 abducted residents had regained their freedom, it did not disclose the circumstances surrounding their release or whether security operations or negotiations led to the development.
