Dry cleaner arraigned for stealing Senator Kingibe’s jewellery

A 52-year-old dry cleaner, Abdul Mohammed, has admitted stealing jewellery belonging to Senator Ireti Kingibe and selling the items for N45.7 million.
Mohammed was arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Dutse, Abuja, on Friday on a one-count charge of theft and remanded in custody following his guilty plea.
Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ilelah ordered his remand and adjourned the case until September 21 for sentencing.
The prosecution counsel, Adama Musa, told the court that Kingibe, who resides in Zangon Daura Estate, Kado, Abuja, reported the alleged theft at the Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on June 27.
According to Musa, Mohammed gained access to the senator’s room, broke open her jewellery box and stole gold bangles, necklaces, wristwatches and earrings.
The prosecution said the suspect confessed to the offence during police investigation, adding that he admitted selling the stolen jewellery to Suleiman Isah and Isah Yusuf, both of the FCT, for N45.7 million.
Musa urged the court to sentence Mohammed following his guilty plea, citing Section 112(8) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
He said the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code Law.
