Report seeks urgent security agencies response to stop threats to 2023 elections

Press Release Distribution agency in Nigeria, PR Nigeria, has drawn attention to the criminal activities that could disrupt elections, saying security stakeholders should be proactive in putting an end to any violent threat.

The report, “2023 election: SWOT analysis of major presidential candidates and security matters” draws responses from two states in each of the six geopolitical locations of the country which also undertook virtual surveys/interviews on the fears and aspirations of the electorates in other states over the security situations ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Speaking during the presentation of the report on Wednesday in Abuja, s Deputy Editor, PRNigeria, Abdulsalam Mahmud, said the SWOT Analysis of the five major presidential candidates, is to ensure relevant security agencies are informed about the candidates’ profiles and how their participation in the electoral process can affect the country’s fragile peace and unity, in the next few days, months and even years ahead.

According to the report, “It provides comprehensive information of the leading Presidential Candidates that most of the respondents mentioned are Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC, Alh. Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the NNPP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Omoyele Sowore of AAC. “

Similarly, another report presented by Staff Writer of Emergency Digest, Mukhtar Ya’u Madobi noted that current insecurity volatility in Nigeria with regards to cases of criminal activities like kidnapping, terrorism, and violent separatist agitations.

It added that in the last couple of weeks, cases of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, politically motivated attacks, and violence have spiraled across the country just as we are approaching the 2023 polls

It provides comprehensive information on the current insecurity volatility in Nigeria Regarding cases of criminal activities like kidnapping, terrorism, and violent separatist agitations among others.

The report it’s observes, vote-buying may happen during the election, disturbing ethnocentric and religious sentiments in political campaigns have further created fear of potential violence during and after the electio,n, and .assumption that the outcome of most elections are predetermined, voter apathy may still be an issue in some places.

Th report proffered solutions for stakeholders in political process t ensure peaceful elections before, during,g and after.

There is a need for individual communities to support the government in launching sensitization campaigns and advocacies on tolerance and peaceful co-existence through appropriate communication channels.

The report which was developed with support from the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, WSCIJ, under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development Inclusivity and Accountability Project, CMEDIA, funded by the MacArthur Foundation underscored threats pre, during and post-election across the geo-political calzones.
