Consultants are frustrating revenue collection - DOAS

Some revenue consultants within the Federal Capital Territory Administration are responsible for most of the discrepancies faced in collection of Internally Generating Revenue, IGR, in FCT, according to Dr. Babagana Adam, director, Department of Outdoors Advertisements and Signages, DOAS.

Adam in an interview with journalists in Abuja, recently, debunked reports from a section of the media that the administration was having a running battle with the area councils in the FCT over revenue collection.

Gana, while explaining that the department is the sole agency charged with the responsibility of collecting revenue for outdoors advertisements and signages in the FCT, noted that they had a sharing formula on how the generated revenue will be shared between the FCT, DOAS and area Councils.

He noted that because of the understanding they had with Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, in revenue collection, DOAS had been given three offices in AMAC.

According to him " DOAS is not having any misunderstanding with Area Councils Administration of the FCT, DOAS is only having conflicts, perceive conflicts generated by the sailor, the revenue consultants who are aggrieved of what they are not doing before for the past thirty to ten years, some of them have been living fat on the problems they create between Area Council, DOAS and FCT administration. Let me prove to you as I'm speaking to you, DOAS has gotten a desk in the office of the Chief revenue officer of AMAC, Mr Danlami Awaje.

"We have also been given a number of staff from the AMAC to work along with DOAS, as well as given three offices in AMAC for DOAS to come and operate, work along with the staff given and under the supervision of the director of DOAS and the chief revenue officer in the area of outdoor advertisement and signages system, so where lies the conflict, is just a rumour. You see people who want to divide a government set up create false alarm".

Gana further stated that the Abuja Municipal Trade and Investment Company limited which was incorporated by Corporate Affairs Commission is illegal, and that the CAC has written a letter to company to come and change that company’s name.

He vowed that the DOAS will not be intimated by any group or revenue consultants to surrender outdoors advertisement and signages revenue collection to them in FCT.
