FCT election: I remain APC candidate for AMAC, Karshi insists

By Laraba MUREY

An aspirant for the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, chairmanship under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Murtala Karshi, has insisted that he is the sole  flagbearer of the party.
Karshi, who made this declaration, Wednesday, in Abuja, explained that he emerged the winner of the April 2021, AMAC APC primaries with the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, publishing his name as the candidate to represent the APC in the February 12 polls.
He further disclosed that he had won his case in court before the judgement was appealed at the Appeal Court, which overturned the ruling against him, leaving him with no choice but to approach the Supreme Court.
Karshi said: “Some of the aspirants that we contested together are here and they can attest to that. Also, APC after the primary election, submitted my name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and my name was published, then later on, my victory was challenged in court and in the court I won again.
“The litigation was proceeded to the Court of Appeal and in that court it was not ruled in our favour and we went to the Supreme Court.
“And in a situation like this, if you have any case and you have taken the case to the apex court the status quo remains.
“And in this regard what do we mean by the status quo remains, it means, I, Murtala Karshi, is the authentic candidate of APC in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) until after the verdict of the Supreme Court.”
Our reporter gathered that the Supreme court has asked both parties to desist from flaunting  themselves as APC candidates for AMAC,
In  addition, it ruled that the status quo should be maintained pending final determination of the matter.
